Advincula "All things begin with one " ~Shimabuku Tatsuo Sensei Explaining to Kaneshi Eiko why he named his style Isshin-ryu Numbers play an important part in Oriental Fortune telling and Shimabuku Tatsuo Sensei was a Sumuchi (Fortune teller) who used the ancient Chinese book I Ching (Book of changes) in everyday affairs in his life. The I Ching is the greatest foundation of Chinese philosophy and sets the stage of basic Chinese philosophy that provides philosophical perspective to give insight on situations and problems in different situations in life. As a Sumuchi, the I Ching along with other ancient books used in divining played a great part in Shimabuku's thoughts and influenced his thoughts when creating Isshin-ryu karate-do. [more...]

Here in Hattiesburg, MS, we are slowly getting our homes, health and lives back to normal. Our town, though not as bad as others by any means, was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. While not trying to diminish the catastrophic damage that Katrina unleashed on the MS, AL, and LA Gulf Coast; many here in the Pine Belt have lost lives, homes, jobs and many are scratching to survive. Fortunately, God has provided for my family and we are safe and happy to be with each other. But I encourage anyone reading this to PLEASE donate to the valid organizations that are giving aid the the survivors of the areas affected by Katrina. We are currently riding out the weather caused by Hurricane Katrina. It isn't that bad right now, but our thoughts and prayers go to the people on the Coast of MS & LA.
